Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of interpretation of man through the prism of E. Cassirer’s philosophy of symbolic forms and disclosure of heuristic value of this approach in the context of modern civilization processes that lead to underflow of basic human characteristics – integrity, spirituality. The E. Cassirer’s philosophy of symbolic forms is interpreted as a kind of «morphology» of the spirit, and shows that the spirit is essentially carried out in a variety of forms. E. Cassirer sees his way of research as phenomenological, attempts to understand the development of cultural forms and generally spiritual not «from the outside» but «inside», on the basis of symbolization as a fundamental human needs. From the point of view of the thinker, to understand the culture means to understand the essence of man, and the philosophy of symbolic forms becomes a philosophy of man. The philosophy of symbolic forms as philosophical anthropology tries to identify the idea of human being and to overcome the fragmentation of the human sciences, and as the theory of creation cultural worlds, using symbolic constructs decides the defining problem in the spirit of the Kantian vision – as it is possible culture in general. And Cassirer puts in the first place the problem of preservation of the human person (humanity).
