Introduction. It is noted that trauma of Ukrainian social space was caused by prolonged domination of Soviet ideology, when cultivating fears and phobias, and individuals were forced to flee from "the Power’s achievements" both physically and mentally. It is stressed that one of the consequences of the Soviet past for modern Ukraine was the dissemination of the phenomenon described as the concept of "social devitalisation". Purpose. The article aimed to distinguish the key moments of traumatizing by the Soviet ideology, which as the basis determines the dissemination of the phenomenon of social devitalisation in the Ukrainian social space of the early twenty-first century. Methods. Based on the stated goal and formulated objectives, the main methods of research were retrospective and comparative analysis. Results. It was stated that the fact that the Soviets left primarily "imprints" on the sphere of values and determined the axiological shifts in the most vital components of the Ukrainian social space adds to the specificity of the functioning of the modern Ukrainian social reality. Originality. It is indicated that the destruction of the natural connection and exchange between the city and the countryside and the artificially formed Soviet conflict between them is the main reason for the emergence of social devitalisation of personality. Among the reasons, it is indicated that the destroyed connection was for some time replaced by one-way forced alienation, in which the city consumed exclusively (products, people, land), and that destroyed the source of vitality. Conclusion. It is noted that the Soviet ideology "killed" those sources of vitality that nurtured Ukrainians at all times. It should be said, that the Soviet ideology had formed a habit/stereotype that forced the Ukrainians to leave lands/villages and to seek for a better fate somewhere in the space of dead cities and continue to make the village to die.
