Philosophical and anthropological context of G. S. Skovoroda’s work: symbol, interpretation, understanding

Abstract



The article discusses the possibility of reception of the figure and work of G. S. Skovoroda in the context of modern philosophical anthropology and practical philosophy searches. It is shown the essential closeness of G. S. Skovoroda’s ideas and searches of modern European and national philosophy in the area of philosophical problems of knowledge, human identity, the correlation between the concepts of rationalism and humanism in the context of their genesis and formation the basics of Western civilization in the Enlightenment. Particular attention is paid to the specifics of G. S. Skovoroda’s philosophical mysticism, its reception in modern national philosophy and value to search for philosophical and national identity and modern Ukrainian myth. The author defines symbolic nature of Ukrainian philosopher mysticism and meaning of symbols and symbolism for interpretation the texts of the philosopher, their understanding and comprehension in philosophical and anthropological tradition of 20th century. It is argued that the internal semantic dynamics and dialectical openness of cognitive mans relationship to the world, recorded in the texts of G. S. Skovoroda, is achieved through antithetical and synaesthetic nature and structure of the symbol.
